Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and located on the island of Java. Officially, Jakarta is not a city, but a special district with the status of capital city. The city was a trading hub for the Dutch East Indian Company and the city centre has canals according to a Dutch pattern Jakarta has a multicultural population and several cultural centres, among them the Senayan Centre.
