Lizzie, Mr Darcy, Mr Bingham and all the others will spend the summer at Vadstena Castle!

Here at Vadstena Academy , we are proud to be able to announce a new production that has romance, a twinkle in its eye, is sharp as a tack, and of course ends happily – Jane Austen's beloved novel Pride and Prejudice is to be an opera at Vadstena in 2011!

Composer Daniel Nelson was educated in Chicago, USA, but lives in Sweden. Most of his works to date have been orchestral works that have been performed around the world — from Sundsvall in Sweden to South America. Others have described his music as pulse-oriented with a slightly neo-Romantic vein, and filled with exuberant energy. To Nelson, it's very important that the opera should be entertaining:

“Jane Austen depicts very directly and candidly a wonderful array of personalities – from the charmingly sympathetic to the grotesquely comical – while her allegories and double meanings are hidden. I'd like to make the music as sparklingly witty to the listener as Jane Austen's prose is to the reader. The richly melodic music and graceful arias reflect both the intrigues and double meanings in the book.”
