Please note all events will be held in Swedish.
For us. For our siblings.
For those of us who live, those of us who fight everyday for a dignified life, the right to be ourselves, accepted and loved for who we are. We fight together for those of us who are no longer with us, for those of us who struggled, but couldn’t carry on.
Transgender Day of Remembrance is a tribute to those of us who should be here today, but have fallen victim to violence and trans hatred.
Reclaim Pride, Kontext Press and the TDoR Committee Gothenburg present Trans Awareness Week 2020: a week focusing on trans people's life and death. With lectures, panel discussions, workshops, speeches, memorial service, support, love and fellowship.
The initiative for the Transgender Day of Remembrance was taken in the United States in 1998 in memory of Rita Hester, who was murdered in Allston, Massachusetts and has since been held increasingly worldwide, on November 20 each year.
This year, we choose to draw attention to the existence of transgender people and in particular shed light on gender-affirming care through week of events, held completely online.
The week will be about grief as resistance, transgender people's self-medication, the history of the binary gender system and gender affirming care in Sweden today and how it can be improved.
Mourn the dead and fight like hell for the living.
The event takes place online during week 47 from the 16th to the 22nd of November, 2020. All activities are free of charge and in Swedish. Most activities are open for everyone to take part in, some are closed and only open to trans people
The majority of the events can be seen live here, on Youtube and Facebook.
To participate in panel discussions, workshops and group discussions, you need to install Zoom and preferably have a microphone. Webcam is optional.
If you want to protect your identity when you connect, we have a number of encrypted connections we can hand out, much like prepaid cards. Contact us via email at [email protected] if you want such a connection to the event.
The week is organized by forces from Reclaim Pride, Kontext Press and the TDOR Committee, in collaboration with ABF and the Västra Götaland region
